Hello 8th grade teachers -
Thank you for taking the time to meet with Kate yesterday. We know not everyone was able to attend and we heard your concerns that it’s important that everyone is on the same page during the first whole grade level rollout. Based on your feedback, we’ve scheduled a 1:1 Program meeting with me, Kate and Anna for Thurs, Oct 8 during Panther Time. Mark and Laura will be doing a Character Ed presentation with 8th grade students in the gym so that we can meet. Location and logistics will come in a subsequent message.
Prior to this meeting, there are some important updates needed on all iPads. We've discovered a bug that was introduced in one of the later versions of iOS 8 that allowed students to sign in using a personal AppleID through the Music app. The iOS 9 update fixes this bug, so we are asking Core teachers to communicate this to all students immediately. There are then some app updates that should be done.
Core teachers - On Friday and Monday, please provide the following info to your classes:
Apple has released iOS 9.0.2. Please update your iPads to the latest iOS at home. This update is required and will fix various bugs. If you encounter a problem installing this update, please email: iPadSupport@mvschools.org with details about the problem/error.
All teachers - During Panther Time on Tuesday, Oct 6, please do the following with your 8th grade students:
- Please have all students update the Google Drive app to the latest version (available as of 10/1), which is supposed to resolve recent issues.
- Please have all students update the Airwatch Agent app (called “Agent”) to the latest version, which is required for iOS 9.0.2.
- The app updates in steps 1 and 2 may not complete by the end of Panther Time. This should not be a problem because the apps will finish downloading when the student next connects to a WiFi network.
- Please have all students go to Settings > App and iTunes Stores, and make sure that the Updates button is “ON” (green) under Automatic Downloads. The other three items under that category should be “OFF.” This should fix most instances when a student is asked for a password to update apps. After this step, there may still be some students who are asked for a password (related to the bug mentioned above), and in this case, they must email iPadSupport@mvschools.org so that we can fix the issue.
We are in the process of creating some slides with screenshots to illustrate the items mentioned above. You will receive this by the end-of-day Monday.
We appreciate your continued commitment to the 1:1 Program. We know that there have been issues during this initial rollout that have impacted your classrooms and teaching. Please know that we are constantly working to address and resolve these challenges as quickly as possible. We hope that we can keep working together to build a successful program.
Jim & Kate
